Stacked Rocks Cairn
6″ x 6″ acrylic painting
painted on a gessobord
$100 plus $8 for shipping and handling in the continental US
Sometimes called a Cairn, although technically it’s not from what I’ve read. The first time I saw one of these, actually dozens or more, I was in Sedona, AZ. Of course I built one when I was there and now I have 2 stacks at home in my garden.
My paintings usually start out looking fairly abstract. As the process continues I slowly add more detail using layers.
I ran into trouble with the texture of the rocks because I started painting the tiny crevices, and variations of texture, with small dabs of paint. After seeing that it wasn’t creating the result I wanted, I loosened up my stroke and the impressions of the textures came to life.
I may paint another Cairn because the process was so much fun!
