The Zippo Challenge SOLD

6″ x 6″ daily acrylic painting
surface – clayboard
SOLD

“Olfactory Memory”

The reference photo was provided by Michael Naples for DailyPaintWorks.com as part of an art challenge. The challenge is to use only 3 colors, which is part of the reason I decided to use acrylics rather than pastels . .  although I may still paint it again in pastel.

The surface I used is a very smooth one which changed the way I used the paint. I primed the surface in black before painting and I’m very pleased with the results.

Painting this evoked the smell of lighter fluid for almost the entire time I was working on it. My grandfathers both had beautiful lighters and I always loved the smell of the lighter fluid combined with the flint when it was sparked.
