I have many abstract sketches but most of them lie waiting. My hesitancy to paint them is a mix of feelings. Mostly I’m unsure of how they will be received since I’m basically a somewhat realist painter.
The idea for this piece came after the 2010 Gulf oil spill. The sketch has been sleeping until today.
When I was much younger many of my paintings were abstract. After viewing anything I painted my father would inevitably say “It’s not a Rembrandt”.
I mistakenly took it to heart and focused more on realism. Don’t worry though . . . I still love the challenge of realism. But who said I can’t do both!?

If you are interested in purchasing this painting framed please contact me for pricing. The photo you see is the frame we use for most of my pastels. It compliments them beautifully. They are made of blonde wood and measure 1.25″ deep by 5/8″ wide. The mat measures 2 1/2″ all around.
