Abstract Coffee painting SOLD

6″ x 6″ pastel painting, unframed

I’m stepping out of my comfort zone with this painting of a coffee cup. Abstraction was something I did a lot in my younger years. As I became more detailed with my work, leaning toward realism, painting in the abstract became more of a challenge. Although I want the viewer to recognize the subject I also want to keep the details to a minimum.
I used pastel strokes with this without my usual method of blending with my fingers. I had to keep saying “No!”. The spoon and the handle of the cup were deconstructed just enough to be recognizable . . . I hope. If you’d enjoy seeing more paintings in this style please email me –
