12×14 pastel painting
commissioned dog portrait
The first of the year commissioned dog portrait and more on the way. This was a fun and challenging painting. The biggest challenge of painting black dogs is creating enough values yet still convince the viewer that the dog is black. I needed to run out to the art supply store to buy as many blacks and grays that I could get my hands on! As a pastel artist you can never have enough colors.
The background is one of my favorite parts of this painting. I wanted to create some texture without distracting from the subject. I’m very happy with it!
