Last night was the third session of my pastel painting classes. It’s been more fun than I could have imagined and an invaluable learning experience for me. It’s also helpful that my students all seem to have an intuitive talent.
During the first session we focused on learning about the medium, application and the different available grounds. We painted a still life of an apple on the second day of class. Everyone was finished with their value study and painting within the 2 hour session.
We painted a calla lily last night. I gave my students the option of starting with the basic outline drawing so we could get to the important part of learning to use pastels. I worked on the painting step-by-step so they could follow along.
My hope was that everyone would find their own style along the way and that hope is being satisfied. Although the subject is the same each student has their own unique strokes and approach.
I think they did an amazing job!
Next week, the last of 4 sessions, we will be using a still life set-up.
The next set of classes starts on November 21st in Whitinsville, MA. I also have gift certificates which can be a great surprise for your creative family and friends!
