portrait of a child and a dog

coen2

8″ x 8″ pastel painting

It was a week of portrait work. Meet my grandson Coen. There were so many photos to choose from and this is one of my favorites. I just love his expression.
The reference photo was small and a bit fuzzy so I needed to work out some of the details by drawing from experience. Sometimes it’s difficult to know when to stop painting. This was one of those times. I could keep going by blending colors more and removing some hues that I wasn’t sure I wanted to keep. The problem with that can be an unwanted result without being able to turn back. So I quickly popped it in a frame.

5″ x 7″ pastel painting

This weeks commission. Another painting which had it’s challenges. Although the fur (or is it hair on a Maltese?) is white it took many variations of white, grey and blue to suggest the hair.

If you’re interested in a pet portrait I’m once again available for commissioned portraits. Just send me an email for more information.

Thanks for taking the time to look at my work!
