portrait of my son

6″ x 8″ pastel painting
“Cory”
When I was a kid growing up in New York my mother always brought me to the annual street art show. I was always impressed with the pastel portrait artists. The fact that they could paint someone’s portrait live in front of an audience seemed magical to me.
I have such respect and admiration for portrait painters. It’s not easy capturing someone’s personality along with their likeness.I started this painting working with values in gray and planned on adding color. I changed my mind because I like the effect that was created with the background color of my surface. I’ll probably paint another of him in oils.
