“Watch Hill, RI sand dune”
8 x 10 pastel painting, unframed
My husband and I took a day trip to Watch Hill, Rhode Island this summer. I finally got around to sorting through my photos to paint some of the beautiful scenes. This dune, which lead to the beach, was quite the trek because the sand was soft and deep.
My hope is that you want to see what’s over the hill in this painting as I did when I was scaling it.
Landscapes are so different to work on than still life paintings. I always feel that there are never enough shades of green. I wanted to get the feel of the beach when the colors are washed out a bit by the sun. Adding more greens would have changed the mood so I used a limited palette.
I always have a favorite spot in each painting. In this one it’s the small bit of sand to the left at the top of the hill.
